Room Service Atlanta Spring 2013

2013 has already been a year of abundant blessings for me, but this blessing takes the cake. After volunteering in the hot summer of 2011 at the Nicholas House by helping my fabulous friend Dayka Robinson design her room, I took on designing a room at United Methodist's Children Home in Sam Bell cottage by my lonesome. And by lonesome, I mean with amazing monetary/material donations from friends and vendors and some serious elbow grease by some of my besties.

This spring, one of my soul sisters Liz Ballard and I decided to tackle a girl's suite together. I'll save all the funny stories of roaches, towel rods flying into the toilet, oil-based paint hands, curtain whiplash, and late night paint-fume sniffing and just get to the nitty gritty: our before photos, our after photos, and then a list of the AMAZING people who helped us out this year. We are forever indebted to these wonderful people who continue to give and are already asked us about our next project. ::::sigh:::: We know some great people, huh? We also met many other great design souls that we now call friends through RSA!

Little project breakdown for you first. We approached this like any other design plan:
  • Timeline
  • CAD plan
  • Budgeting
  • Shopping
  • DIY
  • Hard labor. Hard, hard labor.
  • More labor.
  • And just when you thought the labor was done... you decided to wallpaper your fridge. And hang your own backsplash. And disassble the cabinets. And pint your countertop. And, and, and.
  • Cleaning
  • Handpainted artwork (the night before install, naturally)
  • Installing
  • Jumping with joy
  • Photographing
  • Partyyyyyyyyyy
